Franklin County is starting its annual budget process and commissioners are anticipating a very harsh budget year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The county has seen big drops in tax revenue, particularly the gas tax which funds much of the road department budget.

The board agreed to send budget letters to all county departments and constitutional offices telling them to prepare and submit their proposed budgets for the next fiscal year and to make sure there are no budget increases.

In fact, commissioners said county offices should be prepared with a Plan “B” in the expectations there may have to be an across the board cut in budgets.

Budget proposals have to submitted to the county by June the 1st.
