Florida unemployment grows steadily in November

Franklin County’s unemployment rate jumped from 7.8 percent to 8.8 percent in November.

Statistics released by the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation show that 401 Franklin County residents were looking for work last month up from 357 in October. But even at 8.8 percent, Franklin County has one of the lowest unemployment rates in Florida. 10 Florida counties had unemployment rates lower than ours.

The average unemployment rate in Florida was 11.5 percent in November. 48 of Florida’s 67 counties had unemployment rates above 10 percent with the highest unemployment in the state in Flagler County at 16.8 percent.

Gulf County saw its unemployment pass 10 percent last month rising from 9.9 percent to 10.5 percent. 660 people were jobless there in November up from 622 in October.

Wakulla County’s unemployment rose slightly from 7.7 percent to 7.8 percent – there are nearly 1200 people looking for work there. Liberty County continues to have the lowest unemployment rate in Florida at 6.1 percent.
