Franklin County considers way to provide water to Eastpoint cemetery

Franklin County Commissioners say they have had no luck in getting the Eastpoint water and sewer district to reconnect water service to the Eastpoint cemetery so the county is going to run water there itself.

For the past month the county commission has tried to get the water district to reconnect water to the cemetery so people can take care of their family plots. The water service was cut off after a water line to the cemetery broke. The water district has refused numerous requests to restore service.

County Commissioner Bevin Putnal attended the last water district meeting but was told that providing free water was illegal even though the cities of Apalachicola and Carrabelle both provide free water to cemeteries within their limits. County Commissioners have decided to give up the fight; instead they are going to try to run water to the cemetery themselves.

They are either going to install a shallow well at the site or run water from an already existing water tap they a few blocks away at Vrooman Park in Eastpoint. They are currently investigating which option is the most economical.
