Florida recieves 2.6 million dollars to protect endangered species


Florida will receive nearly 2.6 million dollars from the NOAA’s Fisheries Service to assist with projects designed to protect marine mammals, sea turtles, fish, coral and other species listed under the Endangered Species Act.
The money, which is being provided through the Protected Species Cooperative Conservation Grant Program, will go to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission for three projects.
Those include nearly 400 thousand dollars to improve management of the five species of listed sea turtles in Florida waters 1.4 million dollars to monitor and map threatened coral reefs and almost 800 thousand to assist in the recovery of smalltooth sawfish throughout Florida and the Gulf of Mexico.
The 3 Florida projects were among sixteen proposals were chosen for funding in 19 US states and territories.
