Franklin County increases fees for rezoning requests

Rezoning property in Franklin County will now cost a little more.
The County commission on Tuesday agreed to raise the fees for a rezoning request from 150 dollars to 250 dollars.
The fee is used to cover the costs of public notice and of the certified letters that have to sent to adjoining property owners.
This is the first time the county has raised the fee since 1995, but as county planner Alan Pierce pointed out, the price of postage and advertising has gone up in the past 15 years – and its only right that the person requesting a rezoning pay for it, and not county taxpayers.
The motion to raise the fee was approved 4 to 1.
District 1 commissioner Pinki Jackel voted against it
