Local Realtor Helen Spohrer was recognized Tuesday for her service to Franklin County.
Mrs. Spohrer received a resolution of appreciation from the county commission for her work to enact a bed tax and for her work on the board that oversees how the tax dollars are spent.
The bed tax allows the county to levy 2 percent on every hotel room, rental house, and RV space rented in the county to raise money to build and maintain tourist related facilities and to promote the county to bring more tourism to the area.
Mrs. Spohrer played an active role in garnering public support for the tourist development tax in 2004, when local voters approved it in a referendum by an almost 2 to 1 margin.
She was also one of the first members on the Tourist Development Council, a group she chaired in 2008.
Besides the resolution of appreciation from the county, she also received a plaque from the TDC.
Mrs Spohrer said it was an honor working with the council.
