County commissioners say beavers are becoming a problem in portions of the county and have asked their road department to see what they can do about it.
Usually beavers aren’t a problem, but sometimes they build their dams in waterways or ditches that affect streets and homes.
Commissioner Bevin Putnal said there is a problem with one up Highway 65, Commissioners Cheryl Sanders said there is also a dam on Highway 67.
The board asked that the road department destroy the dams and get the water flowing again, but they know it’s just a matter of time before the beavers build back.
Last year the board discussed a proposal to begin trapping nuisance beavers in the county but nothing ever came of it.
Currently the board can either hire a licensed hunter to trap and kill it or they can catch it in a live trap and give it to wildlife protection group in Leon County.
