A local officer with the Department of Environmental Protection has been named the State Law Enforcement Chiefs’ Association’s 2010 Officer of the Year.
Officer W. Garrett Creamer received the group’s top honor for his actions in saving human lives on two separate occasions in 2010.
On May 5th Officer Creamer was the first on scene at a traffic crash at Wakulla Springs State Park where he provided emergency first aid to victims and extinguished a vehicle fire that had victims still trapped inside.
On June 30th he saved a child’s life by moving her away from a burning motor home just minutes before the motor home exploded and flames engulfed the area where the child had been.
Officer Creamer was one of 8 people to be nominated for the Officer of the Year recognition.
