Franklin County now has a convention center.
On Tuesday the county commission agreed to officially name the Fort Coombs Armory as a convention center.
They took the action with the permission of the Florida Division of State Lands with the requirement that they not change the use of the building without seeking state approval.
The 108 year old Armory, which Franklin County has leased from the National Guard since 2004, is generally used now for private events like weddings and concerts.
The board also voted that the Tourist Development Council should use any excess funds it has to fix up the building.
The armory needs repairs to its roof, wiring, and kitchen and also needs an air-conditioner.
