Local unemployment up in August


            Unemployment in Franklin County increased slightly in August from 7.8 to 8.2 percent.

452 people were looking for work last month; that’s 20 more than in July.

Franklin County had one of the lowest unemployment rates in the state; only 5 counties had unemployment rates lower than ours.

In Gulf County the unemployment rate stayed above 10 percent for the third month in a row.

Gulf County unemployment was 10.2 percent with 647 people looking for work there.

Liberty County’s unemployment stayed dropped from 7.3 to 7.1 percent.

In Wakulla County unemployment ticked up from 8.2 to 8.3 percent.

Nearly 1400 people were looking for work in Wakulla County last month.

Statewide, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained stable at 10.7 percent.
