The 2011 Atlantic
hurricane season is now officially done, and we managed to get through another
season unscathed.
This was the sixth straight year without a
major hurricane hitting the US coast. But that doesn’t mean we were unscathed.
Hurricane Irene was a category 2 storm when it made landfall in North Carolina on August 27th.
It was still one of the costliest storms in U.S. history and killed at least 47 people here and at least eight more in the Caribbean and Canada.
It was a busy season with 19 named storms, 6 of which because hurricanes.
That ties it as the third most active season on record.
