Life jacket is a thoughtful gift this Christmas

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission have a Christmas gift recommendation for that boater on your shopping list.

The state agency says a new, comfortable life jacket can make an ideal gift, and it could save someone's life.

A lot of people don't wear life jackets because they feel they're uncomfortable but many newer models are hardly noticeable.

New models like Belt-pack and suspender life jackets are inflatable.

Some inflate automatically when a person falls into the water, while others inflate after the wearer pulls a cord.

And they aren’t super-expensive.

Prices of the belt-pack and suspender life jackets start at around $60.

And there is the peace of mind of knowing that you are helping protect your boat loving friends and family.

Last year, there were 79 boating fatalities in Florida - 49 of them by drowning.
