Eastpoint will be a little more bright this Christmas

Eastpoint will look a little more Christmassy this year.

County commissioners last week agreed to spend nearly 6700 dollars to hang 26 large Christmas decorations on Progress Energy Power poles along Highway 98 between Island Drive and 3rd street.

The steel decorations are being made by inmates at the state prison in Carrabelle.

The real cost of the project is for progress Energy to install the electrical sockets on their poles so the decorations can be lit.

The county agreed to enter into a 6 year agreement with the company that leaves progress Energy responsible for installing and maintaining the service.

The county had set aside 7500 dollars about 2 years ago to cover the cost of the project.
