County commissioners have hired
a new Fixed Base Operator for the Apalachicola Airport .
The board on Tuesday agreed to
sign a contract with Crystal Air out of Chattanooga .
The company should begin
services in Apalachicola late this month.
Under the five-year lease,
which is still being reviewed, the county will receive a little more than
$5,000 a month.
Director of Operations Taylor
Newman said the company will start off slow, just figuring out what services
the airport needs with the intentions of increasing services over time.
The company plans to provide
airplane maintenance, and will even look at flight instruction, though it will
likely be next summer before that happens.
Mister Newman said the company
will focus on customer service.
The company will likely have
a open house of some kind in December to introduce itself to the community.
