Franklin County seeking money for Eastpoint land purchase

Franklin County may soon have money to purchase more land around the Eastpoint boat ramp and pavilion.

The Florida Community Trust said the land purchase is now within its funding range.

County commissioners initially expressed an interest in buying the land years ago, but there were too many other projects ahead of this one.

That is no longer an issue.

The two lots are just east of the pavilion and are already being maintained by the county under a maintenance agreement with the property owners.

If the Florida Community Trust funding comes through the county would own the land outright.

County Administrative Director Alan Pierce said the property owners have already been contacted and have indicated that they will entertain an offer.

The Florida Community Trust is now in the process of appraising the land and the purchase could be complete within 90 days.
