Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council schedules committee and advisory panel meetings

Gulf Council to Convene its 
Socioeconomic Scientific & Statistical Committee (SSC)

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council has scheduled a meeting of its Socioeconomic SSC from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday, November 8, 2013. The group will meet at the Council Office - 2203 N. Lois Avenue, Suite 1100 in Tampa, Florida.

The Socioeconomic SSC will meet to:

1. Conduct a socio-economic evaluation of alternative red snapper allocations
2. Review suggested methods of analysis
3. Develop recommendations to the Council
4. Discuss other business (if any)
The Socioeconomic SSC is made up of sociologists and economists who review the findings of the Stock Assessment Panel and advise the Council of the social and economic impacts of setting total allowable catch at the various levels recommended by the Stock Assessment Panel.

Although other non-emergency issues not on the agenda may come before the Scientific and Statistical Committees for discussion, in accordance with the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act, those issues may not be the subject of formal action during this meeting.  Actions of the Scientific and Statistical Committees will be restricted to those issues specifically identified in the agenda and any issues arising after publication of this notice that require emergency action under Section 305(c) of the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act, provided the public has been notified of the Council's intent to take action to address the emergency. 
 
These meetings are physically accessible to people with disabilities. Requests for sign language interpretation or other auxiliary aids should be directed to Kathy Pereira at the Council Office at least 5 working days prior to the meeting.
About the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council
The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council is one of eight regional Fishery Management Councils established by the Fishery Conservation and Management Act of 1976. The Council prepares fishery management plans, which are designed to manage fishery resources within the 200-mile limit of the Gulf of Mexico.

Gulf Council to Convene its 
Ad Hoc Red Snapper Individual Fishing Quota (IFQ) Advisory Panel

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council has scheduled a meeting of its Ad Hoc Red Snapper IFQ Advisory Panel from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesday, November 5, and 9 a.m. until noon Wednesday, November 6, 2013. The group will meet at the Council Office - 2203 N. Lois Avenue, Suite 1100 in Tampa, Florida.

The Ad Hoc Red Snapper IFQ Advisory Panel will meet to:
  • Review the Council's charge to the panel
  • Review a summary of Reef Fish Amendment 26 - Red Snapper IFQ Program 
  • Review recommendations and conclusions of the Red Snapper IFQ 5-Year Review
  • Summary of Administrative Changes to the IFQ Program
  • Discuss the Red Snapper IFQ Program and referendum requirements
  • Make recommendations regarding modifications to the IFQ Program
  • Other business
