The
Franklin County Commission agreed this week to accept St. George Island
businessman Walter Armistead as the newest member of the Franklin County
Tourist Development Council.
Mister Armistead will replace Alice Collins who is retiring from the
board after seven years of service.
The Armistead family owns the Buccaneer Inn on St. George Island .
The vote to place Armistead on the board was unanimous, but there were
some questions raised about why an Apalachicola
representative was not selected.
The City of Apalachicola is already
represented by a chamber of commerce representative and a member named by the
city of Apalachicola but
there has been a push to add a member to the TDC that represents smaller guest
lodging providers, particularly from Apalachicola .
The TDC was split on that applicant and felt that Mister Armistead would
do more to represent the county as a whole.
They also felt that since he owns a local hotel that he would be
effective in representing small lodging providers.
