Franklin County crime rate drops 40 percent in first half of 2013

The number of major crimes committed in Franklin County was down nearly 40 percent in the first 6 months of the year.
                           
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement released its semi-annual crime report which shows the numbers and types of major crimes committed between January and June.

There were 114 major crimes reported in Franklin County in the first 6 months of this year – that’s down from 189 over the same time period last year.

The decline came primarily from an drop in the number of aggravated assaults.

There were 10 aggravated assaults in Franklin County during the first 6 months of 2013, down from 60 in the first 6 months of 2012.

There were 5 forcible rapes, down from 9 the year before, and 34 burglaries, down from 43.

There was also a drop in the number of motor vehicle thefts from 9 to 3.

The number of larcenies fell from 68 to 60.

There was an increase in robberies from 0 to 2.

The good news is that there were murders in Franklin County in 2012 or the first half of 2013.

Local law enforcement also saw more cases cleared.

According to FDLE – 50 percent of cases in Franklin County during the first six months of this year are considered cleared – that’s up from 40.2 percent over the same time last year.
