Fort Gadsden Historic Landmark has reopened for public use

The Fort Gadsden National Historic Landmark in the Apalachicola Nation Forest has re-opened to the public.
Fort Gadsden was recently closed for repairs, which included replacing the vaults under the bathrooms at the site to ensure no leakage into the soil.
The fort can be found off Highway 65 along the Apalachicola River.
Fort Gadsden played an important role in Florida history.
The site was the location of two successive forts; the first was built during the War of 1812 by the British.
It was also the site of the tragic massacre of more than 300 African-Americans who held the fort under the British flag in 1816.

The landmark offers detailed interpretive information about the site and its history along with trails, river access, and a picnic area.
