Wakulla
County has come out against Amendment 1, which Florida voters will
decide in the next few weeks.
Amendment
1 is a proposed amendment to the Florida Constitution, officially
entitled “Rights of Electricity Consumers Regarding Solar Energy
Choice”.
The
Amendment establishes a right under Florida’s constitution for
consumers to own or lease solar equipment installed on their property
to generate electricity for their own use.
But
Wakulla County commissioners say the amendment also contains
misleading language that opens the door for utilities to charge solar
users a fee under the guise of ensuring solar users are not
subsidized.
Wakulla County
Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously last week to oppose
the amendment.
Amendment
1 is on the November 8th General Election ballot.
