April was a good month for shrimping in the Gulf of Mexico

The Gulf of Mexico shrimp harvest was unusually high in April.
NOAA Fisheries said 4.2 million pounds of shrimp were landed in the Gulf of Mexico in April.
That's the second-highest total for any April over the last sixteen years.
The historic average for the month is about 2.5 million pounds.

Overall about 11.8 million pounds of shrimp have been harvested from the Gulf of Mexico this year – about 2 and a half percent below average.
